Uafato Rainforest Reserve is one of the truly outstanding regions in the South Pacific. Set in a secluded bay on the east coast of Upolu Island, the region seldom receives visitors although Uafato village is accessible by dirt road only an hour and half drive from Apia and offers fale accommodation for tourists.
In a conservation bid to preserve and restore the traditional hard wood rain forests in Samoa, the Uafato Forest Reserve was established. Uafato offers the chance for excellent hiking through the tropical forest to hidden waterfalls, the chance to spot flying foxes and endemic birds in their natural habitat, and the opportunity to hear about the legendary sites related to the god Moso.
