Samoa currency is the Samoan Tala (roughly ST$100 = US$30) and since 1999 it is forbidden to use foreign currency in shops although some companies still quote in US$. American Samoa uses the US$ exclusively.
Most resorts, restaurants and shops in Apia accept major credit cards. ATM machines are available at the International Airport, in downtown Apia and at Salealoga (Savai'i). Local banks include the National Bank of Samoa and the international ANZ and Westpac Banks with banking hours from 9am to 3pm weekdays and 8.30am to 12.30pm Saturday. There are four ATM's in and around Pago Pago on American Samoa.
GST (sales tax) of 10% is included in the price of goods. Tipping is not encouraged.
