Samoan beach fale accommodation is undoubtedly the country's greatest attraction and offer a unique insight into fa'a samoa, the traditional way of life. These fales can be found in some of the most beautiful and secluded parts of Samoa, alongside breathtaking beaches and within traditional village environments.
Beach fales are open-plan thatch bungalows, the more authentic having coconut fronds as walls that drop down like curtains. The bungalows are free of any furniture, but when a guest arrives, hand woven mats are laid on the floor, a soft mattress put on top with fresh linen and a mosquito net draped from the high ceiling. This is the most traditional experience you are likely to encounter in the south pacific. Beach fales cost about US$30 per night including 3 meals a day. Now that's a bargain ...
However, not all fales offer a standard service and hygiene expected by budget travellers and some locations are nothing more than scams to get a few dollars from the tourists.
